Since 1961, The Senior Source has served greater Dallas as the go-to nonprofit for aging services that assist and connect older adults to resources, opportunities and independence.  Programs address the varying needs of seniors, including:

  • The Caregiver Support Program: Resources and services that provide in-home, hospice, housing, transportation, housekeeping, legal and mental health support for older adults.
  • The Senior Companion Program: Sponsored in collaboration with the Corporation for National and Community Service, this initiative matches older adult volunteers with seniors who may need companionship and assistance with non-medical activities.
  • Legacy Corps: A community-based caregiver support program for veterans and their families that utilizes highly trained volunteers to provide a range of caregiver support, including in-home respite care, hospital to home transition support and other related services.
  • Guardianship Program: Staff and trained volunteers offer financial guidance to older adults who may require the services of a court appointed guardian.
  • Long Term Care Ombudsmen: Many older adults in nursing homes and assisted living facilities must rely on ombudsmen to listen to their concerns, then advocate on their behalf in many areas including unanswered call buttons, roommate difficulties, staffing, food and unsanitary conditions.
  • Elder Financial Safety Center: A place for older adults and their loved ones to get professional guidance to ensure financial well-being – from basic needs to financial exploitation.
  • Retired Senior Volunteer Program: Older adult volunteers have the opportunity to reinvest in Dallas area communities by lending their skills to initiatives that focus on improving the environment, tutoring adults and youth, educating seniors about Medicare fraud and assisting nonprofit agencies with short-term projects.
  • Advocacy Group for Elders (AGE): Staff and volunteers leverage workshops, newsletters and community forums to share information about legislation and policies affecting older adults.
  • Foster Grandparent Program: To support school readiness and educational success, older adult volunteers are matched with children who have special needs in schools, daycare centers, hospitals and head start programs.

Since 2006, Atmos Energy has committed nearly $700,000 in support of the extensive care and companionship The Senior Source provides to seniors in need.

“This is such a blessing,” said Delores G., a client of The Senior Source.  “Now I am able to get my medication and pay a few other bills and not feel as pinched this month. Thank you to Atmos Energy and The Senior Source.”

Atmos Energy has also impacted nearly 1,400 clients since 2016 through its Sharing the Warmth program, in partnership with The Senior Source Elder Financial Safety Center, by providing $454,000 in energy assistance to help seniors pay their natural gas bills.

“The Senior Source improves the quality of life of older adults in Greater Dallas, and we are so grateful to Atmos Energy for supporting our mission,” said Stacey Malcolmson, The Senior Source president and CEO.  “Most seniors are on single, fixed incomes and often choose between paying for medication, food, utilities, rent and other basic needs.  Not only is this a financial burden, but it is also an emotional burden for older adults.  Utility bill payments from Atmos Energy allow The Senior Source to address the financial and emotional needs of our clients.”
