Nonprofit Spotlight: Salvation Army

January 2, 2020

Salvation Army Founder William Booth once said, "The Salvation Army is a place of hope. When every other light is extinguished, and every other star has gone down, this one gleam shines steadily and clearly out in the darkened sky: ‘If I could only get to The Salvation Army, they will do something for me.'"

The Salvation Army exists to meet human need wherever, whenever, and however it can, assisting approximately 23 million Americans annually in 130 countries around the globe.  They provide shelter to disaster survivors, food for the hungry, tools to empower those facing poverty, support for victims of domestic abuse, assistance for the unemployed, holiday feasts and gifts, and refuge for victims of human trafficking.

Atmos Energy is proud to be a signature partner in The Salvation Army’s fight to end addiction, homelessness and poverty.  For more than 15 years, Atmos Energy and its employees have enjoyed a robust partnership of working towards a shared goal of “doing the most good” through volunteer and fundraising efforts. From ringing the famous red kettlebell to cooking and delivering hearty meals for families in need, to making sure every child has a gift during the holidays, Atmos Energy employees have volunteered thousands of hours over the years.  During Atmos Energy’s annual Week of Giving campaign, the company matches every employee donation dollar-for-dollar, and in 2018 donated more than $1.5 million to The Salvation Army DFW Metroplex Command to become a Signature Partner of the local chapter.  Atmos Energy’s partnership also includes financial assistance through Sharing the Warmth, a program made possible by contributions from customers, employees and shareholders, distributing funds through local Salvation Army chapters to help pay natural gas bills for eligible customers.
